The Voices of the Prophets

by T. Austin-Sparks

First published in "A Witness and A Testimony" magazines, 1965-67, Vol. 43-3 - 45-4.

"They knew not... the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath" (Acts 13:27).

Our object in these chapters will be to see what those divers voices and manners of God's speaking mean for us in our time and our lives: not a full-scale study of the Prophets, but just the salient message for our instruction, comfort, guidance and - perhaps - warning. Deeper than the words of Scripture, there is a voice; and it was - and is - possible to hear the words and miss the voice. The words are the statements; the voice is the meaning. "Every sabbath" they heard the words, but not the voice.
